I’m staring at my desktop, wondering exactly what document I should upload first.
My timing is “perfect.” But my level of experience? It doesn’t feel perfect at all.
I’ve been told there’s a benefit to jumping into the deep end before you’re quite ready to swim.
Growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, that wasn’t the way we were taught. We were told to prepare, to cross every T and dot every I. We were taught that the right moment comes when everything is in its place.
But that’s not how today’s visionaries do it.
Successful founders, creators, and changemakers don’t wait for perfect. They learn by doing.
They build in the open and share their work before it’s polished. They tell you their mistakes on Instagram Live. They’re not scared to look a little messy while becoming extraordinary.
So here I am, fingers hovering above the keyboard, asking myself the question every dreamer faces at the edge of a leap:
“Is it the right time to make this jump?”
This is the dream community I have wanted to join so the answer of course is “yes.”
Because if we want to tell honest stories about how we got somewhere, if we want others to believe they can do it too, we can’t wait until it’s perfect.
We have to jump while we’re scared, try before we’re ready and make mistakes so we can fix them later.
One of my advisors, an incredibly analytical, intellectual and successful person, told me I can’t let perfection be the enemy.
If even he can say that, maybe the rest of us can loosen our grip, too.
So here I sit, about to share the pitch deck, the one that’s been rewritten a dozen times, and trust that the right people will see the vision behind it. I have invested in an incredible dev shop - they know what they’re doing. They have a robust plan to build out the TellaDraft MVP and I can’t wait to hop on that call to get started. But I have to make this leap first.
And if I don’t?
The acceptance date will come and go, I will never know if the answer is “yes or no” and I will still question if anyone can see the vision that I know is there.
Action creates momentum. Momentum creates traction. Traction creates interest, growth and revenue.
There is value in showing up when no one’s clapping yet.
And there is value in pressing “submit” before it’s all figured out.
Today, I’m choosing action and I hope you are too.
