Discovery Sprint
Behind the scenes of creating a software product as a non-technical founder.
Last week, I started the first Discovery Sprint with thoughtbot. As someone who isn’t technical, I had so much fun watching and learning the process! I worked with a developer and designer to take my methodology and translate it into something real, a product that will help you write your book faster than ever before. They made an incredible team and by the end of the week, we had something solid.
My goal is simple: to create an awesome product you can use to spread your message, grow your business, and finally get that book out of your head and into the world.
If you’ve been saying to yourself for years:
“I want to write a book, but I don’t have time.”
“I don’t even know where to start.”
“Formatting and structure feels overwhelming.”
“This has been on my to-do list forever.”
“I’m not a good writer.”
Then TellaDraft is being built for you.
During the sprint, we mapped out every single problem we could think of that writers face, from procrastination to formatting nightmares and brainstormed every possible solution. I even stayed up late one night in Figma, sketching out the entire author journey with virtual sticky notes: from the moment someone says, “I want to write a book” to the moment they hold their first draft.
By Day Four, the developer had taken all my notes and transformed them into a working proof of concept. That was the moment I realized: this isn’t just an idea anymore. It’s becoming real.
Over the weekend, I had the chance to test the prototype myself. Here’s what I discovered:
1. TellaDraft is for you if…
…you want to have an honest conversation about something you’ve gone through that could help other people or have a business that solves your ideal reader’s problems. It doesn’t start with “perfect writing.” It starts with your story and your truth.
2. A book sharpens your message.
The process of writing forces you to clarify your ideas. It’s about distilling what you know and believe into something others can grasp. That clarity becomes the foundation for everything else you create.
3. You don’t have to do it alone.
The prototype reminded me that writing doesn’t have to be lonely. With the right tools, structure, and prompts, you’re guided step by step. That’s the power of TellaDraft, it keeps you moving so your dream of writing a book can become reality.
Special Note: TellaDraft isn’t just writing software for writers. It’s also software for people who don’t think they’re writers, but who have something important to say.
Be One of the First
We’re opening the prototype to a small group of early testers. If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “I have a book in me,” we would love to have you.
